How Can enlarged Lymph Node On The Neck be Treated?

My son is at college and is a swimmer....under tongue was hurting on Sunday. Found lymph node on neck enlarged on Monday. Went to college doctor on staff for athletics on Monday, and she thought it was a stone. She told him to get lemon juice which he didnt do. He was put also on antibiotic from his own pediatrician at home. He is fatigued. Feels a small mass in the duct of submandibular (which he look up on a picture of mouth on- line). Worried he still has enlarged node and not feeling great. Is this stone infected. Will try to get a ENT appointment

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain, in case if there is a stone in the duct of the salivary gland that can be due to blocked gland with foreign body or there can be formation of crystalline stones in the duct of the gland leading to resistance in the flow of saliva to the mouth and it accumulates in gland due to backflow..

The swelling is also occurring as there is saliva stimulation while eating and when saliva flow increases and due to obstruction it does not flow in mouth it back flows into the gland leading swelling..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and along with a clinical examination he can also advise x-ray or MRI of the salivary gland to rule out for the location of stone and infection status..
Stone will be removed either manually if it is superficial or surgically if it is deep..
For infection antibiotics will be advised..

In this case eating tart/sour candies, drinking plenty of water can at times remove the obstruction with heavy flow of saliva..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
